Fishing in Boca Grande FL
Updated: May 26
Charlotte Harbor is the second largest estuary in the state and there are two main rivers that dump directly into Charlotte Harbor, the Peace river and the Myakka river. Charlotte Harbor flows through Boca Grande Pass. In the winter tarpon will move up the rivers to find warmer water. When the water temperature in the Harbor gets close to 75 degrees the tarpon that migrated into the rivers head back into Charlotte Harbor. For these tarpon it's time to eat. Early April through early May these tarpon will feed on the giant schools of thread-fin herring that also show up in Charlotte Harbor around the same time as the tarpon.
A large variety of fish can also be caught just off the shore to the pass, making shoreline fishing a very popular activity in the area. Sheepshead, redfish, snook and trout are among the most common fish caught along the shore.
